oh bugger !

Can't believe it, I've gone and factured my foot - my heel I believe - in two places. "oh and look there's a chip here too" the doc pronounced. Great !

We were decorating at the time - OH was painting bathroom ceiling and I was finishing off the wallpapering in the kitchen. I stepped off my chair and put my foot down to the floor and don't really know how it happened, but instead of going toe to heel, my foot went toe and then over, followed by my body. I think my frenzied screaming was more in shock at what I'd done ... how could my foot possibly still be attached after rolling so horribly - I could feel things snapping. It was horrible. I've never broken anything before, well a toe once, but toes don't count.

OH insisted that we went to A&E. I think he missed his calling, I could see him as Nurse Lawrence ... if only he could conquer his aversion to vomit and pooh, he'd be great. I hate going to A&E, you sit around for HOURS.

After hobbling into A&E (there are no available wheelchair !) and waiting for three hours to be assessed, they send me for X-rays:

Isn't it just sods law - I'd planned my remaining holidays in December so that I would be doing three day weeks and would have long weekends for my neglected lottie - but now I have a plastercast to just under my knee and am on crutches. I'm supposed to lie on the settee with my foot up ... for 6 weeks !

My boss is going to be so pleased when I call her on Monday :(

  1. Oh poor baby, wish you speedy healing. Sitting for 6 weeks - aargh, if that was me I'd need mental health support, cannot sit still for 6 minutes.

However, you will heal, when I had 18 breaks in 4 metatarsals I was walking around with sticks (and plaster) within a week and no sticks within a month. PMA and all that!

  2. Well that's not going to help with the dancing is it? Not to mention putting up that greenhouse ;>)

I'm not sure what to be most sympathetic over, the break, having to sit in A&E at the Northern for hours or 6 weeks of daytime TV.

I love the way you had your photographer take pictures of your x-rays on screen though ;>)

  3. Ouch!

Wilma Wilbury did something very similar last year; broke her 4th metatarsal (falling over in TJ Hughes, not even drunk!).

If her experience is anything to go by, the bad news is that it WILL take 6 weeks. But the good news is that it WILL heal. Hers is now fully functional again.

Commiserations though; it's deeply frustrating. Try not to go totally bonkers watching the daytime TV (wouldn't wish that on anybody).

  4. Ouch, poor you. You will have plenty of time to plan your allotment for next year though.

Get yourself an unlimited films package from Lovefilm.com, it will be worth the money to see you through.

  7. sorry to hear that ... sounds painful.

just in the process of wrapping meself and our three year old up for an hour or two on the allotments ... just got me first "official" key ... i kind of jumped the gun a little and started clearing the allotment before i'd signed on the dotted line ... what a rebel eh.

hope you're up on you feet soon, BTW is it too late to plant onions and garlic? hoping to get a bed cleared and ready by next week.

  10. oh Steve - definitely time for garlic. Not so sure about onions tho - might be best to leave those now until Spring. Apart from the cold (snow hit Sheffield today) and reduced light, you'll probably find the ground is a bit waterlogged now and the sets will more than likely rot or sulk. Garlic likes the cold tho, so get it in before Christmas.
